Whenever I go out and hear babies wail, whenever I walk down the supermarket aisles with shelves and shelves of formula milk and diapers, I heave a sigh of relief that I am through with the stage where my kids would cry and I had to look for clues pointing me to the culprit. These days, I know what's bothering them because they could verbalize it, even my youngest. Whenever I go out and see chubby babies whose necks are hidden by their pudgy cheeks, whenever I see photos online of toothless … [Read more...]
Nickerbacher, The Funniest Dragon by Terry John Barto, Cymplified!
Nickerbacher, The Funniest Dragon had all the elements of a fairytale: a tower, a princess, a prince, and a dragon. The main character, however, was the dragon. Not just any dragon, but, a funny one. Who ever heard of a funny dragon, right? That's what Nickerbacher's father thought. Dragons were supposed to do their duty. For a moment, I was transported into my younger self, struggling with the need to make my own choices versus the expectations of my parents. But, then, I returned to my … [Read more...]
Family Getaway: Hotel Kimberly Tagaytay Hits & Misses, Cymplified!
After lunch and a brief meeting, we headed to Hotel Kimberly Tagaytay in our family car filled with bags and excitement. I was waiting for this day for ages! The anticipation didn't prevent the kids from dropping off to sleep, though. They did wake up upon nearing the venue. Since we used a Deal Grocer coupon, the check-in was a breeze. Hotel Kimberly was a bright four-storey hotel decked out in indigenous design materials and furniture. It's not the city-type hotel that's a skyscraper, … [Read more...]
The Master and Her Piece: Tippy Go of The Googly Gooeys, Cymplified!
Welcome to my new blog feature called The Master and her Piece! It's an interview I do with women who inspire me and others to live and create better. The first lady I want to put under the spotlight in Cymplified is 1/2 of The Googly Gooeys, Tippy Go. She's the artist behind this gem of a blog, this … [Read more...]
All You Want to Know About the Bible in Pop Culture by Kevin Harvey, Cymplified!
One has to be updated on all Hollywood movies, TV series and popular music to be able to relate with and appreciate this book. Unfortunately, I am not. Therefore, it was difficult to finish this book. Even if there were synopses and brief descriptions, the details were important to be able to make the connection with the Bible. All You Want to Know About the Bible in Pop Culture shows that we can find God's messages everywhere; in stories, in TV shows, in songs, in movies, if we only … [Read more...]
Cultivate Children’s Creativity & Cultural Awareness at Museo Pambata, Cymplified!
One Saturday morning found Cayla, my youngest, and me back at Museo Pambata in Manila for a Bloggers' Event I was invited to. Thank you for having me, Ms. Chie and Ms. Jiana! I love how her face lighted up upon entering the museum. She couldn't wait to start exploring again! Truly, it's a big playground. One area that was closed when we visited the first time was the Aklatang Pambata or Children's Library. It's bright and cheerful. It's colorful and welcoming! I wanted to go there … [Read more...]
Blissful in God, Cymplified!
A big change is underway in my life now. A change that I dreaded, but is important to my husband. A change that I was not looking forward to, because it means stepping out of my comfort zone. A change that is forcing me to face one of my huge fears. A change that has me feeling a wee bit alone. A change that has me feeling dazed. A change that has me feeling uncomfortable. This change brought to mind questions about myself. Am I ready to take the wheel and conquer the streets of Manila? I … [Read more...]
