When doubt whispers, what will you do?
There are times when I find myself in a sinkhole. It’s scary. It’s dangerous. It’s called doubt.
Do you know what’s beneath it? Depression.
People tend to dismiss doubts as they are tiny, like seeds. They don’t easily catch our attention as they move stealthily, creeping into consciousness. Like thieves, unexpectedly they steal our joy and peace.
But if these seeds are watered with feelings of failure and regrets, they will grow uncontrollably.
The seeds of doubt when sown
reap results deadly and destructive. When doubt is allowed to grow
between two people in love,
a huge rough tree stands
in the middle of apathy and hate. When doubt hatches from a heart
that’s afraid to look in the mirror,
scared to take small steps or big leaps,
standing still in a pool of dying dreams. When doubt blooms inside a soul
and the black petals obscure the light,
blocking out rays of God’s love and holiness
on decayed soil, devoid of growth. The effect of doubt on a relationship
is a cold and distant heart. The effects of doubt on oneself
are lack of confidence and self-loathing.The effect of doubt on the Lord
is a meaningless and aimless life.
Have you ever encountered doubt in your life? How did you handle it?
With prayers, God’s Word and hope, I overcame it…
Romans 12:12 (NIV)
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
James 1:6 (NIV)
But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
This time.
That doesn’t mean I will not run into doubt again.
Therefore,
when doubt whispers, I’ll call loudly to my God of hope.
It does not hurt to also have faith, trust, and…
People who encourage and appreciate us.
