Happy new year! How’s your 2015 so far?
It’s that time again for resolutions, goals, and that one word of guidance. I had my “one word” for the past two years. Technically, that makes it two words, right? They were shine and freedom. Both helped me become more intentional in parenting and in the way I want to live.
Purge
Before 2014 ended, I was already thinking about my one word. What will it be? My freedom was not yet achieved in the aspect of clutter of the home and of the digital files, since we still have so many things and photos! It’s overwhelming! It seems that I will never be done organizing in my lifetime. Exaj!
One afternoon years ago, I found myself and my baby in an event in the atrium of a mall. It’s about the home, with a showcase of 3M products. The audience was made up mostly of moms like me. We sat down and listened to the professional organizer talk about clutter. She defined clutter as delayed decisions. It’s so true! Something (let’s say my child’s drawing)Â was placed on the table, to be dealt with at a later time (I had to buy a clearbook or envelope to store all her creations) , which most likely was not decided upon (I didn’t have time to pass by the bookstore yet). Now, a more recent one was put on top and then another one and another one, the oldest one forgotten.
I stumbled upon an article that inspired me not to organize our house but to purge. I seriously considered the word purge as my one word for 2015. Oh, there is a LOT to purge!
One Statement
But, I also want to make more memories with my family, you know?
But, I also want to draw and paint more, you know?
But, I also want to take better Instagram photos, you know?
With these two things I wish to achieve, purge and make, I came up with my one statement. One mantra, if you will.
Own less. Create more. -ceemee
That is my intention, my action, my end result. I am already beginning the purge, starting with my children’s clothes, toys and some old books. Owning less means not buying anymore things we do not need. I have to say ‘bye’ to ZALORA, for now. Owning less also means creating more space for new and better things (quality over quantity) and experiences. I aim to create more memories with my family (being present in the moments) and to create more artworks as expressions, gifts, and as accompaniment for my stories. With that, more stories! Whether real or imagined. 🙂
Do you have a one word? Or a one statement? What do you wish to achieve this year?
P.S. This is the article that inspired me to purge and own less: 15 Minimalist Hacks To Maximize Your Life.

Hello Ceemee! I’ve been thinking of my “one word” for this year. Too many things are going on in my mind right now. I go through this phase every January – new plans, goals, etc. I should try to declutter my mind and let that one word that will guide my actions and goals for this year come out. Thanks for sharing and I hope to see you soon, Cym!

I love this 🙂 Let’s admit it. Sometimes, happiness is defined by the material things we own. However, that’s not always the case since good things in all don’t always come with a price 🙂

Less is more definitely, but more of what matters is essential. Looking forward to see your “mantra” shining through in your stories here, Cym! God bless! 🙂

I love this, Cym! Frankly, the one-word resolution doesn’t work for me because I’m a maximalist (?) when it comes to words. However, I can’t agree more with “purge.” I also love your statement for it. May God help you fulfill it!

That is really nice statement. Three years ago I started minimalist living and I learned that “The less you have and do, the more you will free”
