I am faced with temptation every single day. I am tempted to eat more than my tummy could contain, to eat more sweets after meals. I am tempted to lose my patience with my children, to speak to them with a harsh voice. I am tempted to let the day take over my attitude and goals, to not make time to read the Bible. See, temptations are very common in life. And sometimes, we see them as being so simple that we think that we can conquer them all by ourselves. If these temptations are already a part of our habits, I think they would be harder to overcome. An intentional effort every day, with God’s help through prayer and meditation each day, would support my decision to shine for Jesus.
In my YouVersion Joyce Meyer: Promises for Your Everyday Life – a Daily Devotional devotion yesterday, I read about how @JoyceMeyer shared the “five things that make all the difference in overcoming temptations:
- You’ve got to be wise. Think about the choices you’re making and the consequences before you make them. Wisdom looks ahead.
- Believe that you can resist temptation.
- Think of facing temptation as normal life.
- Avoid areas of weakness. Don’t put yourself in situations where you can easily fall.
- Don’t give yourself too much credit.”
What temptations are you facing today? I know that through trust in God and His promises, He could strengthen you and bring about the change that you desire.
