When You Feel Like You Don’t Matter
by CeemeeYou have a voice.
But, no one seems to hear or listen.
You have a choice.
But, no one wants to acknowledge it.
You speak your words.
But, they use them all against you.
You shed your tears.
But, they shut their eyes against them.
You mess things up.
And, they pounce on you with anger.
You make mistakes.
And, they call them out forever.
Then you wonder.
What’s the aim of your existence?
Then you ponder.
What’s the purpose of your being?
Then you decide,
that you don’t really matter.
A tower of blocks is how I feel like, most of the time. Specifically Jenga.
There are days I would feel like a newly and carefully built tower, sure and stable. There won’t be a piece out of place… Until, a block is removed. And then another. I’d look down at myself and see holes where blocks used to be. Gaping holes of insecurity.
Afterwards, I would feel wobbly and about to tumble any minute. Away they go – blocks of self-confidence, blocks of happiness, blocks of self-worth. There won’t be screaming of excitement, only crying and breaking of the heart, when the tower finally tumbles.
That’s when I feel like I don’t matter. Have you ever felt the same?
The past, regrets and every mistake seem to define me.
But, they don’t!
After the collapse, when I look at everything from the ground, I realize that up there again is where I need to be. Therefore, I let God build me up again. Using His love and His Word, I am a tower without holes once more.
I matter,
you matter –
we matter, to God.
Yes, we do!
If not, why would God bother to know the number of hairs on our heads?
Luke 12:7 (NIV)
Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
If not, why would God care if we worry, get stressed, be anxious or not?
Matthew 6:25-34 (NIV)
Do Not Worry
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]?
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
If not, why would God even give us the Bible to guide us, to teach us and to correct us?
2 Timothy 3:16 (NIV)
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
If He doesn’t care, we will be neglected, be left to our own devices, there would be no hope of salvation, and…
He would not have sent Jesus Christ.
If ever you feel like that Jenga tower of blocks, with holes in significant places, precariously teetering, remember that to the Lord, you matter.
