Wouldn’t it be wonderful,
To escape to Neverland?
To meet the impish mermaids,
And sing with the Indian band.
To fight with Captain Hook,
And take over his ship.
To play with the lost boys,
With no mother’s mentorship.
After spending some time in Neverland with Peter Pan, Wendy wanted to go home. She knows that children need mothers so that they do not grow up to be savages. The lost boys wondered, “What is a mother?” Wendy answered in a song,
Well a mother, a real mother, is the most wonderful person in the world;
She’s the angel voice that bids you goodnight
Kisses your cheek, whispers, “Sleep tight.”Your mother and mine
Your mother and mineThe helping hand that guides you along
Whether you’re right, whether you’re wrongYour mother and mine
Your mother and mineWhat makes mothers all that they are?
Might as well ask, “What makes a star?”
Ask your heart to tell you her worth
Your heart will say ,”Heaven on earth.”
Another word for divine,
Your mother and mine.
Such a wonderful description of a mother, right? Yes, mothers are like stars and they are quite divine. This song encourages me to be a better mom.
I really admire Wendy’s mother. Why? It’s because Mary’s a great wife. She said positive things about her husband in front of their children, especially when they did not like that their father tied their nurse dog Nana outside and that he decided that Wendy shall not sleep in the nursery anymore. She’s also very calm when addressing her children’s concerns. I’ll bet she was the one who told Wendy, John & Michael the stories about Peter Pan and she supports the kids’ stories & imagination. Kindly correct me if I’m wrong. 😀
Speaking of Neverland, I believe that each person has his own Neverland where he could have fun and be childlike. Reading fiction, writing and drawing are my Neverland where I could escape from reality for a little while and be a child again. It is how I temporarily leave the world behind and fly. Right now, I am exploring Neverland by trying to read more books and using different media to make art. I am still trying to discover which medium I am most comfortable with – watercolors, markers, colored pencils, watercolor pencils.
I would like to know, do you have any means of temporary escape from reality? What is it? 🙂

I like peter pan story but forgot about Wendy’s mom already. Reading it here again reminds me to be a great mom just like Wendy’s mom. My temporary escape from reality is when I play with my 9 years old son, when we tickle each other.

Nice post. If I really want to temporarily escape my world, I would just go to the mall or some place that I don’t usually go to. Perhaps the great escape would be to go alone without my husband or my kids. I haven’t done that for years.

My daughter loves to watch the cartoon version on youtube. I think I should watch with her one time. I want to observe Wendy’s mother. I may get one or two ideas how to be a good mother too.

It’s a fun movie although I developed a dislike for Peter Pan. I just thought that’s what happens when one doesn’t have a parent to guide.

No doubt Mothers are one of God’s greatest gifts to us!
And in turn, as a mother, we should give be a gift to our child!
As for my escape from reality…THIS IS IT = = = BLOGGING!
I wish I had all the time in the world…I have so many stories to tell.
But this year has really been too fruitful with projects related to work that I have less time to do so!
During the Zamboanga siege, though, my mind was too full of thoughts, so I was so happy to blog … it kept me from thinking negative thoughts!

Blogging is quite therapeutic and relieves us from the burden of getting the stories out of our minds.

Love the new design of the blog. For me escape to fantasy island is when I am reading a book or absorbed in my Korean Dramas that I watch online 🙂

PS: Your blog design is SUPER pretty! Who designed it? Pray tell!

Your blog design is so pretty, Ceemee!!! 🙂 My temporary escape from reality involves sitting in a corner with yarn and my crochet hooks, maybe a cup of coffee or tea. And cake. Everything is better with cake. 🙂

Cym! I love your blog design. Who designed it? Anyway, I do agree that mothers are wonderful. That’s why I also strive to be the best mom that I can be. 🙂 My Neverland is also in reading fiction, writing and blogging but not drawing. I can’t draw to save my life. Haha!

The illustration is pretty. To escape from reality, I usually read books or listen to music. Watching TV series and anime has also helped me whenever I needed to take a break from everything.

I love this song. It reminds me of my simple childhood indoors. Watching movies sa betamax and repeating it all over again. I wish they can make remake movie of Peter Pan. I really wonder why Tinker Bell became a part of their team. Hhhmmm…
