Even if they are being so demanding most of the time, and if they do not quite understand what I’m saying or what I want to happen, I would still want them to stay little for a long time. I kind of dread the time they become older than 6 years old. I feel like I have so little time to mold them and lead them to Jesus before they go out to the world, or to school. There are so many things I want to do with them while they’re little. Can I enjoy them as cute, chubby cherubs for a longer time?
This poem is a message to myself and to moms like me who have very young children, a reminder to savor every bit of their childhood.
While they’re little, while they’re still light
Kiss them often, and hug them tight
Pick them up, ‘fly’ them across the room
Make stories with dolls, make cars go ‘vroom’
Make them laugh with funny, silly faces
Show them colors and shapes when you go places
Take out the colored pencils, crayons, washable markers
Let them create colorful lines on various papers
Join them in a sing and dance party
Never mind if you look a little crazy
Allow them for themselves to do some things
Give them chances to help their siblings
Revel in their admiration for you each day
Relish their belief in all that you say
Celebrate the little sweet things they do
Appreciate when they say ‘excuse me’, ‘please’, and ‘thank you’
Let them explore freely yet safely
Keep them and their food clean and healthy
Give in to their reasonable demands
Frequently hold their small, soft hands
Instill in them love and respect for the family
Try to be the person you wish they’d someday be
While they’re little, lead them into God’s light and might
Pray over and with them, kiss them goodnight, each night
While they’re little, love them fiercely with God’s heart
It’s unconditional, until they grow up it will never part
Do you have little children? How do you enjoy their precious childhood? 🙂

I agree, it’s when they’re little that we have to teach them important things so it will come naturally to them when they grow up.

So touching!! I spend time with my son by watching his favorite cartoon character, cuddling, tickling. For sure more playtime when he reached a year old or probably know how to play more.

*Sniff sniff* OMG, so sweet naman! Well, I agree with you, kids grow up so fast and next thing we know, they don’t need our guidance anymore. How do I enjoy their childhood? Simple. I let them run around, and I always make sure, I am with them.. I drop everything I do, if they want me to play or read them stories.. 🙂 I love this post!

that’s beautiful. as the quote goes, with small kids, the days are long, but the years are oh so short. often I give in to the tendency to be overwhelmed with my twins, but I also know that I should treasure this time with them. may we all succeed in the goals we set for ourselves and for our children 🙂

Yes, I have only one, and she is a special child. She is three years old now but still can’t understand a thing. We only need to be there for her. 🙂

One of the reasons why I chose to be a full time mom because I don’t want to miss my son’s milestones and development. Time flies so fast and we can’t stop so we just need to cherish the moments. I love the poem.

Nice poem. I can totally relate to it. I sometimes I wish they wont grow up. Theyre growing waay too fast. My eldest is now 10 and her feet is size 6 na! Almost like a lady. My youngest is 6 and turning 7 and she’s starting not to like my hugs and kisses. Its sad lang. Coz sabi nya she’s too old being babied daw. Why do kids are like that kaya?

Reading the poem makes my heart melt every word you include bring back memories of my kids when I don’t want they to grow up. I miss how we cuddle and tickle them and they still laugh at it. Ngayon kasi they have their own thing na specially our eldest since he’s 12 na.

That is so sweet! I love the line “try to be the person you want them to be”. We really have to be our children’s role model. That’s why I know I am and will be a much better person since having my daughter.

Lovely poem! I want to cherish my son’s childhood as much as I can. I even gave up my office job so I can work from home to always be with him. I play with him all the time, I sing to him and dance with him. When we had a yaya, I refused to let her bathe, feed and put Ethan to sleep. I do all those things even on days when I’ve barely slept.

So true! They grow up so fast!
