Paranoia, Cymplified!

Definition of New Oxford American Dictionary:

■suspicion and mistrust of people or their actions without evidence or justification:
the global paranoia about hackers and viruses.

It is easy to be paranoid these days with the crimes happening left and right. I don’t know if I want to go anywhere alone. But what about the employees who commute to and from work? What about those who work on night shifts? There are those who have to travel from the province to Manila back and forth, everyday. They can’t just shut themselves at home. What about a person’s need to unwind? Can’t we enjoy the companies of our friends and family after a hard day’s work without having to look over our shoulders? Can’t we enjoy the fruits of our labor without having to worry that someone might steal them?

For the first time, I cried while watching the news. They were showing the families of the people who died in a bus bombing in Makati. These victims’ lives were taken away just like that. It’s so sad to think that their plans in life won’t come to fruition anymore. They won’t attain their dreams anymore, they won’t celebrate their birthdays anymore, they won’t bring smiles to their loved ones’ faces anymore.

Citizens of the country declare that the government do something about the situation. It is our responsibility to be careful, too. But, if the criminals really want to strike fear in the hearts of others, they will do it no matter what and they will let nothing stop them. I really can’t imagine anyone being so heartless and cruel. I guess they have sworn off their consciences.

I think, all we could do is pray, we really and truly need God’s help on this one. Only God has the absolute power over everything. He is the One in control. One way to combat paranoia is to believe that God will keep us safe. And, something to ponder upon:

This is also where the issues of Death Penalty and Population Control come in. But, that’s for another post.
